SUMMARY:

During the last decades, the access system to higher education in Brazil has experienced major transformations motivated by educational policies of extension and expansion of Higher Education Institutions (HEI). The increase number of vacancies to enter these facilities provide the admission of students who previously had no chance to attend a graduation course. The diversification of the incoming students, along with the dynamics inherent in higher education, required HEI to develop actions that favor student’s integration into the university context, as well for their permanence until the course conclusion. Thus, the retention and evasion rates were monitored by studies that sought ways to combat this problem, in which found, among other solutions to solve them, that pedagogical strategies are important tools. This research is located in the context of higher education and institutional pedagogical support. The general objective is to analyze the impact of Academic Performance Observation Regimen (RODA) as an institutional strategy to observe students with poor academic performance and its contribution to their curricular integration process. In order to achieve that, was decided to achievement a diagnosis of RODA, to identify the weaknesses and strengths of RODA, besides investigate the influence of this pedagogical strategy in the academic trajectory of students. Moreover, this research is a case study in the Science and Technology courses, associated to the School of Science and Technology, and Pedagogy, associated to the Education Center, of classroom courses of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Also, it presents a hybrid approach, combining the benefits of quantitative and quantitative analysis. Regarding the data collection, besides the data gathered from the academic control system of UFRN, they were also collected through bibliographic research, document analysis, direct observation and semi-structured questionnaires applied to students, academic advisors and courses coordination related to RODA. After that, the collected data was analyzed in order to acquire information supporting the improvement and/or development of institutional policies of educational assistance.
