SUMMARY:

This work explores the importance of organizational onboarding for a new
member of an institution, which in the context of this research is a public
educational institution and its technical staff. It examines how this initial
onboarding impacts the integration and organizational socialization of the new
employee and how these stages can influence their work life. The first objective
was to analyze the onboarding process at the institution, verifying its connection
to onboarding and organizational integration; the theme and conceptualization of
the stages of socialization were explored, and previous research that has already
highlighted the importance of working within this dynamic to assist in the
construction of individual perception and social relationships in the workplace was
discussed. The proposed contribution is the creation of an onboarding manual for
new technical staff, providing an institutional tool to support the onboarding and
welcoming of these new members to CERES/UFRN. The tool was evaluated by
agents involved in the reception of new employees at the institution, allowing for
verification of its relevance and potential contribution to both those who receive
and those who are received. To evaluate the proposed manual, a closed-ended
questionnaire was used, designed with questions and possible answers using a
Likert scale, and a final open-ended question. The results show that, for 87% of
the evaluators, the availability of a Welcome Manual contributes to improving the
welcoming and reception of new employees, among other aspects addressed. This
represents the potential relevance of improving the management of the reception
and welcoming process carried out by the aforementioned academic unit.
