Governance in the Third Sector: An Analysis of the North-Rio-Grandense Foundation for Research and Culture.
Governance; Third Sector; Support Foundation.
With the increasing complexity of organizations and the dispersion of ownership relations, governance emerges as a key mechanism to balance the internal and external interests of institutions, improve organizational processes, and ensure management credibility. The growing relevance of the third sector has created the need to enhance its reliability and strengthen its performance, and one strategy to achieve this is to study governance practices within such organizations. The third sector entity that will be the object of this research is the Fundação Norte-Rio-Grandense de Pesquisa e Cultura (FUNPEC). This study aims to analyze the application of governance practices at FUNPEC and to propose improvements based on the principles of good governance established by the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance (IBGC). This research is classified as applied, descriptive, and qualitative. In terms of procedures, it is structured as a case study. Data will be collected through bibliographic and documentary research, as well as interviews with FUNPEC’s Administrative Director and the Secretary of Institutional Governance at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). For data analysis, the content analysis technique developed by Bardin will be used. This study aims to understand FUNPEC’s current governance structure and assess how governance principles are being applied within the institution. As the final product of this dissertation, a governance structure framework will be developed specifically for FUNPEC.
