SUMMARY:

This study is based on a literature review that aims to present benefit management as a discipline and management practice and clarify its contribution to project management. For this, a systematic review of the literature was carried out in two research bases with the application of search strings, which were structured from the reading of previous bibliographic research. The filters inherent to the bases were applied to outline the quantity of results and then the titles and abstracts were read to analyze the adequacy of the contents to the thematic scope of the research. Subsequently, a total of 20 articles were reached, of which 17 were used in the development of the research, since 3 articles were eliminated because they were not in compliance with the proposed theme. The selected articles were then analyzed using MS Excel, VOSviewer. The results pointed to a rise in benefit management, but with reservations, because despite being a discipline that emerged in the area of information technology in the late 1980s, the content analyzed shows difficulty in application, notably due to factors such as the impasse in the establishment of metrics for the evaluation of benefits and the very culture of results that favors the reach of products from projects and ignores the effort required to achieve the benefits. Other topics such as effective identification of target benefits and specific governance structures were identified during the analysis of results and may serve as a motto for future studies.
