I CAN DO IT: INSERTING GIRLS AND WOMEN IN STEM AREAS
Women, Work, STEM, Gender Roles.
This project aims to develop a game, aimed at female adolescents, that expands their knowledge about women in relation to STEM areas and encourages their insertion in these areas through the strengthening of representative models. To that extent, this study will explain some aspects that will base the understanding of factors that are related to the insertion of women in the STEM areas. Therefore, it will start from the understanding that the promotion of gender equality is an objective and a means for the development of modern society. At first, the historical condition of women in the world of work and gender disparities in this context will be outlined. In a second step, the situation of women with regard to professional qualification will be portrayed, especially their occupation in courses in the STEM areas. Finally, it will portray the factors that influence the relationship of girls and women with science and technology, giving special focus to the influence of socially constructed gender roles and the absence of female models in these areas. Once the bibliographic survey has been carried out, the design thinking method will be proposed, to be applied to female students attending high school at the Escola Agrícola de Jundiaí, with the purpose of prototyping the proposed game.
