REFLECTIONS ABOUT THE POLÍTICA DE FORMAÇÃO E DESENVOLVIMENTO DE COLEÇÕES OF BS- ESCOLA DE SAÚDE OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE DO NORTE: NEW PERSPECTIVES BASED ON THE THEORY OF JUSTICE

The university’s main role during academic formation is to qualify professionals with reflexive and critical sense of the world to work in the job market and, above all, to contribute with actions that favor the well being of society. In this training environment, the university’s library has a substantial role, offering support in teaching, research and extension actions. As a consequence, the great amount of informational flow available in different support systems highlights the necessity of pursuing strategies that better fit the current reality lived by the universities’ libraries, creating and maintaining their library catalogue aligned with the institutional goals and with the necessities of their communities. This reality is also experienced at the Biblioteca Setorial da Escola de Saúde, located at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, where this research took place. Despite the fact that this library uses its own institutional instrument, the orientation document, namely, “política de formação e desenvolvimento de coleções”, guides what necessary paths to take to control and to administrate the libraries catalogues. It also presents some bureaucratic obstacles that makes it harder to execute the effective politics destined to the progress of the process, and that’s because they involve particularities of each unit of information. That way, it is considered relevant the investigation of this phenomenon on this dissertation, opting for the utilization of the bibliographic and documental research, along with the experience report as a way of presenting the difficulties faced by the library in question. The main goal, therefore, is to discuss and investigate how to make the Política de Formação e Desenvolvimento de Coleções of the libraries of the Federal University of Rio grande do Norte something fair, utilizing the guidelines and orientations of book Theory of Justice written by John Rawls, as well as analyzing how it can assist the improvement of the reality lived by the Biblioteca Setorial da Escola de Saúde. This dissertation intents, thus, to reflect on what is the best decision taking to solve a problem concerning applied ethics. With a purpose of finding a way that makes it possible to balance and distribute the assets equally in a moment where there is a lack of resources to the expansion of the physical structure. The existing funds are restrained and the consecutive benefits are not always satisfactory to everyone
