SUMMARY:

After the Covid-19 epidemic that ravaged the world, especially in 2020 and 2021, some good practices aimed at the health of the population seem to have been adopted in our daily lives. Among them, we can mention the use of alcohol gel to sanitize hands. If previously alcohol gel was used very little in our daily lives, sometimes being present in hospitals, in homes with newborns and some other places, we can now find it in many commercial establishments and even as an individual object carried in bags and backpacks. Thus, this work seeks to develop a practical and experimental approach using the theme of alcohol gel in order to stimulate students' interest in the subject of Chemistry, encouraging them to explore scientific questions in an active and investigative way. The aim is not limited to understanding the chemical processes involved in the production of alcohol gel, but also aims to raise students' awareness of the importance of chemistry in approaching broader discussions about hygiene, prevention of infectious diseases and formulation of cleaning and disinfection products. In this sense, a didactic sequence was developed and applied with students from the 3rd year of High School at the Rosa Pignataro Full-Time State School. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the students, teachers and coordinators involved in the research, exploring their perceptions about the use of alcohol gel in Chemistry teaching. The results obtained will be treated using content analysis to identify patterns, emerging themes and relevant information from the interviews and observations.
