SOIL HEALTH AND SUSTAINABILITY IN SCIENCE EDUCATION
Soil health education, healthy soils and education, education about soils
Science education is crucial to raising awareness about soil health, a topic of global importance, especially in the context of sustainability. Soil plays an essential role in ecological processes, maintaining biodiversity, and maintaining environmental balance. However, despite its relevance, the study of soil health is often neglected in school curricula, especially in elementary school, and is treated superficially. In view of this, through the production of a teaching unit, this project aims to collaborate in teaching about soil health, highlighting its importance for sustainability and for maintaining life on the planet. The research was conducted in an elementary school in northeastern Brazil, using the Inquiry-Based Teaching methodology, with the aim of promoting a deeper understanding of soil functions and its crucial role in the sustainability of ecosystems. Regarding the methodological procedures, the research is qualitative, exploratory, and applied, adopting the action research approach. Data analysis will be performed using the Meaning Units Elaboration and Analysis Technique, allowing for a detailed and contextualized interpretation of the results.
