SUMMARY:

Since the 1970s, science teaching curricula have addressed the perspective of Science, Technology and Society (STS), highlighting the importance of understanding the relationships between these elements and their social and environmental implications. Associated with this field of study, the approach of Socioscientific Issues (SSI) has emerged, which involves the inclusion of controversial topics in Science teaching, leading students to position themselves critically in relation to the interactions between Science, Technology and Society. In this context, the general objective of this research is to investigate the potentialities and limitations of the use of artificial intelligence such as Chats and its implications or uses in basic education. It is justified by the need for reflections on how technology can impact the construction of knowledge and the development of skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving and digital literacy, especially in ethical and social issues, proposing a reflection on the ethical and moral direction of education in a world increasingly dominated by AI and the discussion of the role of teachers in the AI era. In order to deepen these reflections and encourage the collective construction of knowledge, a Continuing Teacher Training intervention was carried out during the Pedagogical Week of a school in Natal/RN, stimulating debates on the Nature of Science, experiences and practical strategies that support a critical and reflective approach in the school routine. The methodological path included a training course. To this end, this research has a qualitative nature and is characterized as a case study. Adopting as instruments for data collection an initial questionnaire, semi-structured interview and participant observation. These procedures will culminate in the elaboration of categories for analysis of the research data. To this end, ATD will be used as a research technique, according to Moraes and Galizazzi (2016), to analyze the texts of the training activity with basic education teachers.
