TEACHING GEOMETRY THROUGH ETHNOMATHEMATICS IN INDIGENOUS SCHOOLS IN THE STATE OF PARAÍBA

This research paper explores how Ethnomathematics can be integrated into geometry teaching in Potiguara indigenous schools in Paraíba. The study involves the creation of a teaching material that combines traditional Potiguara knowledge with technology, using the SuperLogo software. The research aims to offer more relevant and contextualized mathematics teaching to indigenous students, promoting the appreciation of their culture. The project included the preparation of an activity book and interviews with teachers from Potiguara schools, evaluating the effectiveness of the material developed. The results showed that Ethnomathematics facilitates the understanding of geometry and increases students' interest in mathematics. The study highlights the importance of pedagogical approaches that value traditional indigenous knowledge in mathematics teaching.
