SUMMARY:

Natural Sciences is an area of knowledge, comprising contents and concepts of the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Sciences, among others. However, in school practice the component of Natural Sciences is treated in a disciplinary way, especially in Elementary School II. To teach the Natural Sciences curriculum component in elementary education, it is necessary to have a degree in Physics, Chemistry or Biological Sciences, although traditionally this curricular component has been assumed by biologists. As there is no specific legislation defining which of these degrees should take classes in Natural Sciences, the Degree courses in Physics, Chemistry and Biology end up qualifying their graduates for this professional performance, even though they are not qualified. In this perspective, the present work aims to contribute to the qualification of undergraduate students in Chemistry at UFRN with regard to some Biology contents that are not covered during the course. For this, an educational product will be proposed in the form of an extension course. The contents of Biology will be approached through socio-scientific questions and the extension course will be proposed from the three pedagogical moments. Thus, it is hoped to some extent to contribute to a more qualified training of undergraduates in Chemistry to work in science classes of elementary education.
