INSTITUTIONAL COMMUNICATION AND INTERNATIONALIZATION: A STUDY OF THE BRAZILIAN PROGRAM FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS – UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL AT THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE DO NORTE
Institutional communication; active internationalization; PEC G
This study aims to analyze UFRN’s institutional communication regarding the PEC-G Program, with the goal of developing a technical product that enhances the university’s international visibility and positioning among foreign applicants. The rationale for this study lies in the need to move beyond the logic of passive internationalization — characterized by a greater outflow than inflow of students—and in the urgency of achieving institutional strategic goals regarding the presence of international students on campus, as well as fostering interculturalism and the formation of a diverse student body. Methodologically, a documentary analysis was conducted through data collection from the websites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), UFRN, and the International Relations Office (SRI), including an analysis of SRI’s social media accounts. The results indicate an underutilization of official communication channels—which are focused on the internal audience—as well as a need to adapt content for the international community, in addition to issues related to information architecture. It is concluded that consolidating the PEC-G as a driver of internationalization at UFRN requires a transition from fragmented communication to a planned, multilingual institutional strategy centered on the foreign user’s experience.
