SUMMARY:

Climate changes, in recent years, have been more critical for society, in view of this, energy from renewable sources is increasing its installed capacity in different countries. In this context, green hydrogen (H 2 V) is considered one of the main alternatives to enable the replacement of fossil energy sources for energy from non-fossil sources, acting as an energy vector to balance supply and demand for renewable energy. The thesis aims to develop a functional model of an electrolysis system using seawater to produce H 2 V. The research is characterized as applied, in terms of nature; quali-quanti approach; as for the objectives, it is exploratory and descriptive; and as for the methodological procedure, it is characterized as bibliographical research and case study. The research procedure included three stages: i) theoretical research, involving exploratory bibliographical research on the themes: hydrogen production, functional modeling of products and technological prospecting and methods of patent analysis, and systematic bibliographical review on electrolysis technology with direct use of sea water (DSE); ii) patent search and analysis for DSE technologies; iii) functional modeling of a seawater electrolysis system. As partial results, 138 patent documents were identified and the main trends for this technology were presented, in addition to the construction of the state of the art for DSE. As results to be achieved, it is expected to build a functional model of a direct seawater electrolysis system based on the study of technologies available in scientific and patent documents, and using the product development tools (Functional Structuring, Morphological Matrix and Decision Matrix), contributing to the scientific and technological advancement in the area of DSE.
