Oiteiro: Memórias de uma sinhá-moça (1958) reveals the reminiscences of Magdalena Antunes' youth in Ceará-Mirim, a municipality in Rio Grande do Norte. Moving between the urban and rural spaces of the city, the memoirist brings light to the scene of nineteenth century Brazil, in a context marked by the presence of the sugar industry in the Northeast. This research aims to analyze the representation of Ceará-Mirim in Oiteiro, emphasizing the spatial sphere in this literary work from the perspective of Topoanalysis, a theory of spatiality proposed by Borges Filho (2007). To compose the corpus of this qualitative and bibliographic investigation, the iconic sites of the municipality that appear expressively in the narrative were selected: the Antunes Manor, the Main Church, the Public Market, and the Oiteiro Sugar Mill. The theoretical framework of this research takes into account the contributions of Halbwachs (1990) and Bachelard (1978), who discuss, respectively, the social and intimate dimensions surrounding spatiality. Considering that the scenarios in Oiteiro are reconstructed through recollection, the investigation also draws on the dialogue with Halbwachs (1990), Pollak (1990), and Sarlo (2007), whose reflections understand memory as a social mechanism. Regarding the results obtained from the analysis, it became evident that Magdalena evokes the memory of the aforementioned spaces in a way that is articulated with her personal recollections, constructing an idealized image of these sites, as well as of the city itself. From a nostalgic perspective, the young lady presents a romantic vision of the old Ceará-Mirim, which, aligned with the imagination of the elite, reveals the intention of the narrator-protagonist to freeze in time a past that was fortunate only for the sugar aristocracy.
