SUMMARY:

Myocardial revascularization surgery is a therapy of choice for patients with coronary
artery disease that presents life-threatening hemodynamic instability. In the preoperative
period, anxiety may appear as a precursor to unwanted responses before surgery, in
addition to stabilizing the patient by prolonging their hospitalization. Therefore, a non-

pharmacological method to reduce this feeling is health education, which can rely on
technological tools to facilitate communication and get closer to the patient's reality. In
this sense, we objectively evaluate the effectiveness of an audiovisual resource for
health education and reduce the anxiety levels of patients in the preoperative period of
myocardial revascularization surgery. This is a multi-method study, consisting of
methodological research - for the construction and validation of the audiovisual
resource in the form of video - and an experimental study of the clinical clinical trial
(RCT) type. The methodological process was systematized according to the
psychometric adaptations of Pasquali et al. (2010), which consists of 3 procedures:
theoretical, empirical and analytical; thus creating an audiovisual resource to guide
patients in the preoperative period, validated by literature and experts. The step to
evaluate the effect of using the audiovisual resource in acquiring knowledge and
reducing anxiety levels in patients in the preoperative period of CABG will be a
planned clinical trial using the video validated for an experimental group (EG) and
guidelines standard (verbal) preoperative assessment for a control group (CG). Carried
out in the cardiology ward of a university hospital in northeastern Brazil, including
patients in the pre-operative period of myocardial revascularization surgery, over 18
years of age and of both sexes; Those who had already undergone heart surgery and
were unable to understand the education provided were excluded. This project will be
submitted to the Central Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio
Grande do Norte and registered in the Brazilian Clinical Trial Registry (RBR-
24c5qwm).
