MOTHER’S EXPERIENCE REGARDING THE INTERRUPTION OF EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING: GROUNDED THEORY

This study seeks to comprehend the mother’s experience regarding the interruption of exclusive breastfeeding. It is about an exploratory research with a qualitative approach that will be developed inside Health Units that act as Family Health Strategy, in the urban zone of Caicó/RN. This study’s population will be made by the mothers of children which lives in areas covered by the aforesaid city’s FHS. In accordance with the Data based theory characteristics. there is no preliminary definition about the number of subjects. The amount is defined according to the principle of saturation and theoretical sampling. Inclusion conditions such as the inclusion of eighteen years old or more mothers whose babies have up to six months old that are not having exclusive breastfeeding will be used. And as exclusion conditions, mothers of babies’ bearers of Galactosemia or any complication that impossibilities breastfeeding; babies with congenital malformation and mothers with hearing impairment. The data gathering will obey the DBT’s precepts through a deep interview using an instrument made of two parts: the first referring to the socioeconomical characteristics and the second with a guiding question about the study’s specific object, in accordance with the Data Based Theory. The results’ analysis will be based according to the principles of Symbolic Interactionism and discussed with the support of authors and literature that focus on the mother’s experience regarding the interruption of exclusive breastfeeding. The project will be submitted to the Committee of Ethics in Research of Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and will obey the ethical principles of the Resolution nº 466/2012 from the National Health Council that stablish research protocols, in national scope, involving human beings. The subjects will sign the Term of consent. The study wants to observe the mothers’ optic to comprehend that exclusive breastfeeding does not only rely on the mother’s decision, but a practice that is intertwined to the woman’s life history, to the emotional, social and economic aspects, the sociocultural representations and the subjectivity of each woman. Likewise, want to advance and planning of the current promotion strategies regarding exclusive breastfeeding, with the purpose of reducing the morbidity and child mortality rates.
