Analysis of the Reversal Phenomenon in Oil Wells Equipped with Progressive Cavity Pumping (PCP)
Backspin, Reversal, Rod String, Progressive Cavity Pump, PCP.
The artificial lifting system progressive cavity pumping (PCP) has become an important method and is a frequent object of studies. PCP performs well in the production of viscous oils or in the presence of sand. With the advancement of technology, this method was expanded and being applied to deeper wells. As the PCP expanded its use to deeper and deeper wells, the increased torque in the rod string created a serious operational safety issue. The present work developed a computational simulator for oil wells, using this artificial lift method, capable of representing the dynamic behavior of critical variables of the system during the reversion phenomenon of the rod column. The tests were carried out with simulations using virtual wells and showed good performance, enabling the determination of the maximum reversal speed and torque of the system when the well stopped.
