SUMMARY:

Currently the Petroleum industry is suffering with the acknowledgment and entrance of new sources of energy becoming viable for the society as much as with the consequences of poor management. This kind of situation puts this productive chain in a vigilant state and it’s own search for survival implicates in a need of new ways it’s activities economically viable. Therefore, the innovation has been a new goal inside the intrinsic methodology that new eyes must go for on the optimization of processes searching for the way out for this difficulty that are being faced today. Methods that recover petroleum today increase the recovery factor associated with a field, but can be extremely burdensome and end up with a self-sabotage due to the attractiveness rate be unsatisfactory for the risk taken. With this in mind new methods or those who has been bypassed at first, exactly for these more traditional methods has had an advantage of the once lived scenario, take new perspectives capable of bring back those glorious days of an industry as consolidated as the one of hydrocarbons. The Glycerin injection, little observed during the golden years, proves itself a clear alternative of lowering the costs of the production once, compared to the polymer injection, this fluid has a price below its aggregated value and can be found in different forms, brute and purified, opening, even more, its range of applications. Comparing those more advanced techniques with the most simple and pioneer one, the water injection, can be noted that, technically, a advantage in the application of more recently developed methods. The final argument in the comparation of projects comes to the financial profitability associated to each one of them and, in this context the Net Present Value shows itself as a solution to this doubt. For that reason, for a reservoir with the Brazilian northeast characteristics, where can be found a good portion of the onshore industry, and taking as technical and economical conclusions can be, through computational simulation, solved the question about the future of petroleum industry.
