NURBS-BASED MODEL TO DESIGN INTERFACES OF ADJACENT DISPARATE MICROSTRUCTURAL DOMAINS IN MULTISCALE TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION
.
This work proposes a NURBS-based technique to design interfaces of adjacent disparate microstructural domains. The mentioned technique will be employed as a structural compatibility tool in multiscale optimization methods, providing physical consistency to designed structures, allowing them to be manufacturable, as well as preventing performance loss due to post-processing changes in optimum solutions. A computational code - based on trimmed NURBS surfaces – was implemented and used to perform numerical simulations of compatibility between adjacent microstructural domains. The results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed technique.
