The present study had the general objective of presenting and discussing the insertion of Physical Education as a pedagogical practice in the Child Education Center at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (NEI / UFRN), in order to know its history in the institution and to place the planning of its pedagogical actions in the present time. To do so, we start from the following question of study: How was the insertion of Physical Education in the pedagogical practices developed with the children in the NEI / UFRN? The research was guided by the qualitative approach, using a case study, bringing the Childhood Education Nucleus of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (NEI / UFRN) as the empirical field of the study. We sampled 10 (ten) female teachers, of which 5 (five) were active and 5 (five) retired, who participated in the process of the Pedagogical Advisory Service for Physical Education in the NEI, with the purpose of inserting Physical Education in Early Childhood Education in this institution. For data collection we used participant observation, semi-structured interviews and documentary analysis at the institution. In the analysis of the data we defined themes, from the interview script, in which they were subdivided into categories and subcategories. Preliminary data shows the necessity to include the knowledge of Physical Education in Early Childhood Education, continuing education and initial training, especially in the Pedagogy course of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. The data also reveal the importance that the pedagogues attribute to Physical Education in Early Childhood Education.
