SUMMARY:

itamin E is an essential, fat-soluble micronutrient, with antioxidant action and stored mainly in adipose tissue. There are reports that low levels of this vitamin in low birth weight preterm newborns are associated with the development of intraventricular hemorrhage, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, delays in the development of the central nervous system, ataxia, myopathy, edema, thrombocytosis and hemolytic anemia, signs and classic symptoms of vitamin E deficiency (VED). In newborns terms, low circulating levels were also found, but there is still no consensus on monitoring this micronutrient for early diagnosis of VED or the magnitude of the problem and the associated factors. The aim of this study is to systematize evidence about the vitamin E nutritional status among newborns and preterm newborns and the factors associated with alpha-tocopherol levels. The study will be a systematic review, based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Metaanalysis, based on the research question based on PICOS. The review will include original cross-sectional, case-control, ecological, cohort and case reports in all languages, which analyzed serum / plasma or tissue alpha-tocopherol in newborns, including full-term and / or newborns. premature babies. The bibliographic databases consulted for the review will be: PubMed, Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science and SciELO. The searches in the databases will be carried out by two independent researchers. The quality study will be analysis by Newcastle – Ottawa (NOS) scale. The research protocol was carried out and sent to PROSPERO®, being approved under registration CRD42021165152.
