RESUMO:

Sarcopenia is one of the main causes of disability and high health-related costs of the elderly, considered a syndrome characterized by reduced muscle mass and strength, which mainly affects the elderly population, which causes impairments in functional capacity and affect the health and quality of life of this group. The aim of this study was to analyze the nutritional status and sarcopenia of the elderly from anthropometric, bioelectric and food consumption parameters in relation to body changes. This is a cross-sectional study nested in a cohort of the third wave of the International Mobility in Aging Study - IMIAS Brazil project in 2016, with 169 elderly, who did not have metallic implants, vascular disorders, amputees and pacemakers. Anthropometric and bioelectric parameters, food and dietary intake were collected to assess nutritional status. Anthropometric measurements were weight, height, arm circumference, calf, waist, triceps skinfold, sagittal abdominal diameter, bioelectrical parameters measured by tetrapolar bioimpedance. BMI, low muscle mass and low muscle strength were calculated to obtain the result of sarcopenia. A 24h recall (R24h) was applied to verify the current food intake by Easy Diet Brasil software. To analyze the usual consumption will be used data from the household budget survey (POF), 2008-2009. BIVA analysis was demonstrated by ellipse plot, from resistance (R) and reactance (Xc) plotted using specific BIVA software. Statistical analysis comprised the T2 Hotelling test and the F test. Correlation was verified by the Mahalanobis distance. Results according to classic BIVA showed significant differences between groups and in both sexes, group with sarcopenia T² = 1125.5, p <0.000, D = 13.52, men with and without sarcopenia T² = 32.8 , p <0.000, D = 1.86 and women with and without sarcopenia T² = 56.3, p <0.000, D = 2.19. Specific BIVA showed differences in vector behavior between individuals with sarcopenia and without sarcopenia. The bioelectric vectors of women and men with sarcopenia were located in the right upper quadrant, with a tendency of low muscularity and dehydration.
