SUMMARY:

The objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition, in vitro gas production kinetics, in vitro digestibility and protodioscin levels of Panicum maximum cultivars at different times in northeastern Brazil. The field experiment was conducted at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN from 10/04/2016 to 01/04/2017, in a randomized block design with four replications and six Panicum maximum cultivars as the treatments. The laboratory analyzes were performed from 03/09/2018 to 09/10/2019 at the Laboratory of Applied Nutrition of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul – UFMS. Were performed the analyzes of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), in vitro organic matter digestibility (IVOMD), in vitro digestibility of crude protein (IVCPD) in vitro digestibility of neutral detergent fiber (IVNDFD) in vitro digestibility of neutral detergent fiber (IVADFD) and in vitro gas production. The highest CP contents were found in the second and third sections, being higher for cv. Tamani in the latter, for most cultivars the lowest values of CP were observed in the first and fourth cut. The NDF was higher for cv. Zuri in all sections and the lowest values were observed in cvs. Aruana, Mombaça and Tamani in the second and third court. The highest IVDMD was observed in cv. Aruana. The highest levels of IVCPD were verified in cvs. Aruana and Zuri. The cv. Massai presented the highest leaf blade IVNDFD and cv. Aruana for the stem IVNDFD. Panicum maximum cultivars showed good adaptation to the environment conditions, the nutritive value and in vitro digestibility of the six cultivars remained at levels considered good even in periods of water deficit.
