SUMMARY:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the protodioscin concentration, chemical composition, in vitro digestibility and in vitro gas fermentation kinetics of Brachiaria spp. The treatments consisted of five Brachiaria cultivars: Basilisk, Marandu, Paiaguás, Piatã and Xaraés in four cuts over a year (April 2016 to April 2017). Dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), leaf and stem acid detergent fiber (ADF), in vitro dry matter digestibility ( DIVMS), organic matter (DIVMO), crude protein (DIVPB), neutral detergent fiber (DIVFDN), acid detergent fiber (DIVFDA) and in vitro gas fermentation kinetics and protodioscin concentration. The cultivars presented similar results for DM, with the lowest values observed in the samples of the last cut, independent of the component. There was cut x cultivar interaction for all digestibility variables. The Basilisk cultivar presented the highest CP content, followed by the Marandu and Paiaguás cultivars. The highest percentages of NDF and ADF were found in section four for all evaluated cultivars. The cultivar Basilisk presented the highest digestibilities, followed by the cultivar Paiaguás and Piata. The evaluated cultivars were influenced by the edaphoclimatic conditions and age that were imposed during the cutting intervals, there was an increase in CP content in the periods where the lowest precipitation occurred and an increase in fiber content in the highest precipitation. The protodioscin concentrations were influenced by the cutting ages for all cultivars, being the largest of cuts 1 and 3 (112 and 111 days after regrowth, respectively) and lower in cuts 2 and 4 (84 and 58 days after regrowth, respectively). ). The cultivars show good adaptation to the experimental conditions, especially because they maintain high protein and digestibility even in periods with less precipitation.
