RESUMO:

The objective of this study was to evaluate the replacement of ractopamine by oil capsules of safflower and coconut oils in the finishing pig diets. Twenty - four barrows with a mean weight of 98.70 ± 1.63 kg were distributed in a randomized complete block design with four treatments and six replicates. The treatments consisted of basal ration (RB); RB + 10 ppm ractopamine; RB + 4g safflower oil and RB + 4g coconut oil. The parameters of performance, economic viability, organ weights, meat quality and carcass characteristics were evaluated. Safflower oil had the highest amount of meat in the carcass and perch weight. It was observed that the coconut oil presented the highest value of loin eye area and lower area of fat, resulting in a meat: fat ratio that is much higher than the others. The value of the ration showed that the control group for not having any type of inclusion proved to be the treatment with the best result (P<0.05).  However, the cost of the feed showed that the oils were more expensive than ractopamine (P<0.05). The economic efficiency index and the cost index revealed that the control group and ractopamine are more efficient and cost less than vegetable oils (P<0.05). Although the use of the oils has brought benefits to the meat, it is recommended not to use any extra product in the animal feed.
