RESUMO:

The objective of this study was to evaluate the productive performance of forage palm Mexican Elephant Ear (Opuntia stricta Haw) using agricultural hydrogel and chemical fertilizer applied via leaf. Three treatments were used with six replicates arranged in a randomized complete block design. The total area of each plot was 56.25 m², but during the 12 and 24 months after planting, the useful area of 11.25 m² / plot was used. To the control (T1) was given chemical fertilizer applied in the traditional method. The T2 received chemical fertilizer applied through the foliar and the use of the agricultural hydrogel. T3 received only the chemical fertilizer applied via the leaf. P was applied to the foundation in all treatments. The maintenance fertilization occurred every 60 days using sources of N, K, Ca and Mg. The study was conducted at the facilities of UFRN on the campus of Macaíba / RN. OEM planting took place in January 2017 with cladodes distributed in five double rows with 133,333 plants / ha, densified with spacing of 1.0 x 0.5m x 0.1m. Sprouting data were collected bimonthly. Morphological data were collected from 10 random plants in each useful area per plot for characterization of length (CC), width (LC), thickness (EC) and height of plants. The cladodes were weighed to determine the green mass production (PMV) (t ha-1). The dry mass production (PMS) was calculated according to the dry matter content (DM) present in the cladodes of each treatment multiplied by the production of green mass (PMV), thus obtaining the PMS expressed in (t ha- 1). It was observed that there were significant differences in productivity (p <0.05) between the T2 and the Witness by the Tukey Test at 12 months. At 24 months there was no significant difference between treatments, but the yield was higher than the first harvest. There was no significant difference between treatments for the morphometric characteristics of (CD), (LC), (EC) of cladodes in both harvests. There was a significant difference in plant height between treatments. Foliar fertilization efficiency was observed in T2 and T3. It was concluded that the productive performance was more significant in the treatment that received the association of hydrogel and chemical fertilizer applied through foliar at 12 months. However, at 24 months there were no significant differences between treatments in PMV and PMS.
