RESUMO:

The objective of this research was to evaluate the use of safflower and coconut oils under the replacement of ractopamine supplementation in the finishing pig diet. Twenty-four castrated males with a mean weight of 78.00 ± 8.76 kg were distributed in a randomized block design, containing four treatments and six replicates. The diets were distributed in T1 - Basal Ration (RB); T2-RB + 10 ppm ractopamine; T3 - RB + 4g of coconut oil and T4 - RB + 4g of safflower oil. The parameters of performance, organ weight, carcass characteristics, meat quality and fatty acid profile by gas chromatography were evaluated. The ractopamine presented (p ≤ 0.05) better feed conversion and weight gain. There was no significant effect under carcass characteristics. There was a reduction (p ≤ 0.05) in the weight of the stomach when coconut oil was used. There was a significant effect (p ≤ 0.05) on safflower oil supplementation on the backfat thickness at point 3 (ET3) and loin eye area (AOL) for animals supplemented with ractopamine. The concentrations of myristic and elaidic fatty acids in the adipose tissue were higher (p ≤ 0.05) when using coconut oil and in the Longissimus dorsi muscle, oleic acid (ω-9) enrichment and elaidic acid reduction. These data confirm the effect proposed by ractopamine on the evaluated parameters and it can be substituted by the safflower oil in view of the observed similarities.
