RESUMO:

The objective is to estimate the economic losses caused by mastitis, its effects on the quality of milk and use it

 as a management tool in making decisions on production systems. Mastitis is a common disease in milk 

production systems and is responsible for significant production losses, requiring the development of actions to 

contain their effects. Analysis of production and economic losses caused by mastitis associated with milk quality

 seeks to support producers in the standard range of quality within the current legislation in our country, 

according to procedures established by the guidelines to improve the quality of milk and dairy products. 

The experiment was carried out in the micro region of Angicos, where samples of raw bovine milk cooling tanks 

with 21 monthly were collected. The samples were collected in duplicate and stored in 40 ml pots. 

The procedures were the following types of analyzes: composition (fat, protein, lactose, total solids, nonfat dry 

layer, casein protein percentage of casein and freezing point), somatic cell count (SCC) and total bacterial count 

( CBT). The samples were analyzed in the Milk Quality Laboratory of UFRN - LABOLEITE and PROGENE 

(UFRPE). A questionnaire was applied in the initial project phase in order to obtain accurate information 

related to the management of milking, milk storage and risk factors associated with mastitis. Sensory 

analyzes were conducted both as milk cheese for possible difference detection between different levels of 

SCC. The results of the study variables were tested for normality, and the variables showed no homogeneity,

 they will be transformed so that they exhibit the normal distribution. The data will be compared to 

international milk quality standards. Thus, it is expected to quantify the losses caused by mastitis, based on 

CCS tank levels, which contribute to product quality information and assist in making decisions that will lead 

to improvements in the production chain and the final consumer.
