SUMMARY:

This paper deals with Local History through the Calcanhar Lighthouse, located in the
municipality of Touros/RN. The research is focused on History teaching and came from the
lack of local topics and teaching materials in the classroom. Therefore, the main goal is to
understand this historical heritage through different sources, analyzing the changes and
connecting local history to broader content. The specific goals are to investigate the
Calcanhar Lighthouse in the wider context of lighthouse history and to record local
narratives, such as the memories and experiences of the community in Touros. related to the
Calcanhar Lighthouse; since this is a master's thesis from the ProfHistória program, which
requires the proposal of an educational product, a guidebook for high school was developed,
based on the historical research conducted that connected the Calcanhar Lighthouse to local
history teaching and other contexts. The methodology used in this study included: literature
review, oral sources, document and image analysis. The research made it possible to
understand that the Lighthouse is not limited to its technical function, it has potential for
teaching and is connected to other historical processes such as the New State policies and
World War II, it is an opportunity to bring these topics closer to the students' reality. Through
activities with different types of sources, it allows investigative practices in the classroom.
