SUMMARY:

This dissertation, affiliated with the ProfHistória program (UFRN), analyzes representations of
masculinity in the *forró de vaquejada* music of Junior Vianna. Motivated by the school
environment in Araruna (Paraíba), the research employs the concepts of the "invention of the
Northeast" and the phallus to problematize the *vaqueiro* (cowboy) stereotype in contrast to the
vulnerable man. Methodologically, it adopts the song-as-document as its central historical source.
The study results in a teaching module for high school education that uses *forró* as a
pedagogical resource to discuss gender identity and promote civic awareness.
