ÉTICA, EMPATIA E RESPONSABILIDADE: UMA PROPOSTA DE ENSINO DE HISTÓRIA PARA OS ANOS FINAIS DO

Historic Awareness; History teaching; Active Teaching Methodologies; DICTs; Social
Values.
This work points towards preliminary reflections in an ongoing research for the Master’s
Degree at UFRN’s ProfHistoria program, which attempts to integrate digital technologies
via active teaching methodologies for meaningful learning experiences among students.
The research project as well as the intervention is set at Escola Estadual Nestor Lima and
encompasses ninth graders. The study and proposed actions derive from students’ well-
known lack of motivation and crucial scholar agenda to teaching the making and living of
citizenship. The proposal rises from digital media discourse of violence and lack of respect
towards women, boosting women’s fight for both social and political inclusion in the first
decade of the Brazilian Republic, to raise historical awareness, critical thinking and ability
to question common sense. Its general goal is to overcome students’ lack of motivation
with the development of historical, critical and civil awareness guided by meaningful
learning about values and principles such as ethics, empathy and responsibility viewed as
socially constructed. Particularly, it aspires to promote historical learning through the
connection of current times and youngsters’ experiences with DICTs (Digital Information
Communication and Technologies); to awaken students’ skill to analyze their reality,
identifying how these values and principles have been constructed through time and to use
this theory as a means to stop academic disengagement and propel pragmatical use of the
mentioned values and principles to make students apply their civil skills not only in virtual
environments but also in their actual lives in and out of the school borders.
