SUMMARY:

This dissertation aims to analyze adjustments in two specific areas of clarinet reeds and understand how these interventions contribute to the resulting sound. It is based on the assumption that the reed plays a central role in sound production, directly influencing the acoustic response. The research is characterized as qualitative, in which participants actively engaged in the experimentation and evaluation of the adjustments performed on the reeds. Data collection involved structural measurements, especially at the resistance point (RP) and the thickness of the reed tip, in addition to records obtained through interviews and field notes. The results showed that reducing the resistance point is directly associated with a decrease in reed resistance, promoting improvements in sound production and articulation. However, it was found that isolated intervention on the RP is not sufficient to ensure vibratory stability and acoustic balance. In this context, adjustments in the reed tip region proved to be decisive for refining the sound response, influencing aspects such as projection, clarity, and comfort in the high and altissimo registers. Nevertheless, adverse effects were also observed, such as excessive softness and muffled sound quality, highlighting the non-linear and interdependent nature of the adjustment process. The analyses indicate that the balance between resistance and flexibility constitutes a fundamental principle for optimizing reed response, with the resistance point being responsible for regulating the overall response, while the tip acts in acoustic refinement.
