SUMMARY:

This master's thesis aims to investigate the idiomatic traits in drummer Paulo Braga's performance, with emphasis on his use of "vassourinhas" type drumsticks, especially in the samba and bossa nova genres. In addition to a detailed biography, musical aspects that Braga uses frequently and which are considered specific to his approach are examined. From the crossing of information obtained through oral history, mostly from lives held during the  pandemic, as well as transcriptions and musical analyses, we will present the idiomatic elements that define his performance, aiming to identify distinctive characteristics in his way of playing with brushes.
