SUMMARY:

The neurodiversity paradigm establishes assumptions for research, education, and clinical practice that
challenge traditional notions of normality and the pathologization of neurodivergent individuals. Within
this perspective, neurological differences are no longer understood primarily as deficits requiring
correction but rather as legitimate expressions of human variability, whose impacts depend on the
relationships established between individuals and their social contexts. These dynamics contribute to the
emergence of ways of functioning that differ from those expected within neurotypical norms. In this
context, social camouflaging emerges as a strategy through which neurodivergent individuals conceal
characteristics associated with their neurodivergence in order to avoid discrimination or social exclusion.
At the same time, growing evidence points to concerning consequences of this strategy for the mental
health and development of neurodivergent individuals. Accordingly, this study aims to understand the
meanings of social camouflaging for neurodivergent individuals in the constitution of their university
experience. The study will adopt a multiple-case study design grounded in Historical-Cultural Psychology.
Data will be collected through individual semi-structured interviews with neurodivergent university
students, using an adaptation of the simple self-confrontation method, followed by qualitative data analysis
conducted according to the procedures of Thematic Analysis.
