SUMMARY:

Among the sources of renewable energy in Brazil, wood presents itself as a priority resource when choosing a fuel with characteristics that meet priority criteria for the practice of the “green economy”. However, access to this resource in a sustainable way must be achieved through dynamic knowledge of the regeneration of forest stands, considering local climatic conditions, which can be decisive in the formation of wood after cutting. This work had the general objective of evaluating the amount of energy stored in areas of Caatinga under sustainable forest management, analyzing the influence of local climatic conditions on the production of wood biomass according to different post-cutting ages. The study areas chosen were the Estrela do Norte and Quimporo farms, both located in the municipality of Cruzeta/RN, Brazil, which have been under management since 2009 and 2011 respectively. For selection, the following criteria were met: being registered with the state environmental agency as areas with an active sustainable forest management plan; number of plots already explored since the beginning of the activity in these areas and the time elapsed after cuttings for the commercialization of wood. A total of 65 temporary plots were randomly installed, 10 in plot one (14 years post-cutting), eight in plot two (13 years post-cutting), nine in plot twelve (12 years post-cutting) 10 in plot four (11 years post-cutting) nine in plot ten (nine years post-cutting) of Fazenda Estrela do Norte and nine in plot one (eight years post-cutting) and 10 in plot four (seven years post-cutting ) of Quimporo Farm, all with dimensions of 20 x 20m, in accordance with the measurement protocol for permanent plots of the Caatinga Management Network. Individuals with CAP>-6cm were included in the inventories carried out in each of the plots and, in these, CAP (circumference at chest height), CNB (Circumference at base height) were measured at 0.30cm from the ground and total height (m). The production of wood biomass was calculated based on the results of the forest inventory, considering the energy density values of the basic density and higher calorific value of the wood species with the highest indices of importance values in each study area. The climatic variables: precipitation, maximum and minimum temperatures, evaporation, evapotranspiration and humidity were extracted from the ERA-5 Reanalyses, made available by the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) for the period from 2009 to 2024. Statistical analyzes were performed using Microsoft Excel software to evaluate the biomass production of the seven plots, make a productivity prognosis simulating 14 years of exploration and make a correlation between the biomass production data, IMA (Average annual increment) and IPA (Annual periodic increment) . It is concluded that the species Croton cf. blanchetianus Baill is the most abundant in the area under management, while the species with the highest energy reserves observed were Mimosa tenuiflora (Willd.) Poir, Croton cf. blanchetianus Baill, Bauhinia cheilantha Bong. With the result of the prognosis carried out, biomass production was 25 Mg/ha in the 14 years simulated, considering data from the seven plots measured. The analysis revealed a significant vegetative production prognosis, with positive correlations between biomass, IMA and average annual precipitation at 14 years, in addition to a negative biomass production when IMA and IPA were correlated with maximum and average temperatures and evapotranspiration for this same interval. time.
