SUMMARY:

The Peripherally Inserted Central Venous Catheter (PICC) stands out among the venous devices used in neonatal intensive care units. The ability to handle the PICC catheter presupposes behaviors and skills that promote the safety of the neonate and minimize the risks of complications related to the use of the catheter. In the meantime, as a method that systematizes the practice and directs the patient's needs, the Systematization of Nursing Care (SAE) emerges with a significant impact on the quality of care provided to the newborn. In this directive, the study aims to clinically validate a Terminological Subset of ICNP® for newborns with Peripherally Inserted Central Venous Catheters, having as theoretical support the Systems Model developed by Betty Neuman. This is a methodological study, in which clinical validation will be carried out through clinical cases. The project is a continuation of the Master's Dissertation entitled “Terminological subset of the international classification for nursing practice (CIPE®) in neonates with peripherally inserted central venous catheter in the light of Betty Neuman's theory” with the Certificate of Presentation for Ethical Appreciation (CAAE) 48990515.0.0000.5292, in which 31 diagnoses/outcomes and 154 nursing interventions were validated, which made up the terminological subset. Thus, based on the clinical findings of professional practice, the diagnoses, results and nursing interventions of the ICNP® for newborns with a Peripherally Inserted Central Venous Catheter will be validated. It is noteworthy that the use of the Neuman systems model represents the conceptual-philosophical basis capable of directing the clinical evaluation towards the identification of stressors and their possible causes. The clinical validation of the terminological subset contributes to the science of nursing and favors better quality of care provided to newborns using the PICC. It is expected that the development of the proposed study based on a conceptual model will promote the construction of nursing science; collaborate with the teaching-learning processes, by favoring the exchange between research and professional practice; promote the approximation of academics and nurses to Nursing theories and taxonomies; provide subsidies for new propositions and clinical validations of nursing diagnoses/results/interventions for care as a result of the application of the Nursing Process.
