SUMMARY:

Ranganathan's Laws are fundamental principles that should guide the technical and administrative decisions of libraries, seeking to maximize access to and use of information. However, their applicability in contemporary systems still lacks research. Given this scenario, the present research aims to audit the informational policies of the Library System of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (SISBI/UFRN) under the aegis of the Five Laws of Library Science (FLLS). Methodologically, it is characterized as exploratory and descriptive research with a qualitative-quantitative approach, configured as a case study operated in three stages: deductive analysis for the parametrization of the FLLS into audit criteria; a survey with the system's librarians to assess professional perception regarding the applicability of the FLLS; and an analysis of SISBI's informational policies through documentary analysis, direct observation, participant observation, and semi-structured interviews. The results revealed that SISBI is in transition between the custodial and dissemination paradigms, with the application of the FLLS occurring partially: of the 27 indicators evaluated, 7 were fully met, 15 showed partial compliance, and 5 were not met. As contributions, the research presents the parametrization of the FLLS into strategic guidelines and the proposal of 32 improvement recommendations for SISBI. It is concluded that the use of the FLLS as strategic guidelines is an effective tool for administrative modernization, allowing the transition to the dissemination paradigm and consolidating the library as a living organism.
