SUMMARY:

Considering the strategic role of university libraries in the context of higher education, as well as the advancement of social responsibility in Information Science, this research analyzes how the academic environment acts as a space for the resocialization of individuals serving sentences. The study investigates the reintegration process of inmates in open, semi-open, and conditional release regimes through work in the Integrated Library System (SIB) of the State University of Paraíba (UEPB), within the scope of the "Citizenship is Freedom" project. This is an applied research, with a qualitative and exploratory approach, whose data collection was carried out through documentary research and semi-structured interviews. The sample consisted of fifteen participants, including eight inmates, three auxiliary staff members, and four library managers. Data analysis followed the Collective Subject Discourse (CSD) method, allowing the construction of semantic panels that represent the collective thought of the studied groups. The results show that resocialization at the SIB/UEPB transcends sentence reduction, consolidating itself in three interrelated dimensions: in the labor dimension, the reconstruction of professional trajectories and technical learning stand out; in the social dimension, academic interaction helps to overcome prejudices and promote mutual respect; and in the subjective dimension, the recovery of the dignity and self-esteem of the inmates is observed. Based on these findings, the technical product developed in this research consists of a set of informative brochures aimed at assistants and inmates, as well as an Intersectoral Monitoring Protocol, designed to systematize functional records and ensure shared institutional support. The results of this study suggest that the university library can act as a hub for social change, offering resources that contribute to the discussion of more humanized inclusion policies within the justice system.
