SUMMARY:

Specialized libraries go beyond the preservation, organization, and thematic processing of information. They offer services and products geared toward specific audiences within their institutions. In Brazil, specialized music libraries meet the needs of users in this area, and their reference and information services reflect this reality. Each library develops services based on user demand and librarian initiatives, as well as within the capabilities of infrastructure, resources, and staff. This research aims to investigate the reference and information services and products offered by Brazilian specialized music libraries in order to improve the services of the Padre Jaime Diniz Library of the UFRN School of Music. The specific objectives are: to characterize the main opportunities and challenges faced by Brazilian specialized music libraries in providing reference services; to evaluate the services and products of the Padre Jaime Diniz Library of the UFRN School of Music; and to propose a guide to reference and information services for the Padre Jaime Diniz Library of the UFRN School of Music. To achieve these objectives, this research combines bibliographic research, documentary research based on library websites, and user surveys of the UFRN School of Music's audience. It uses semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire as data collection tools. This exploratory research uses both a quantitative and qualitative approach. It is justified within the context of specialized libraries, focusing on a specific field of library science: music. It analyzes the Reference and Information Services (RIS) offered by these libraries, recognizing their relevance as key players in the information mediation process within a community with specific demands, reaffirming their strategic role in providing qualified service to users' needs.
