This work proposed the Appreciative Inquiry of Action-in-Action Method as a model of strategic consultancy for engaging older adults with scientific content published on the Instagram profile of the Instituto do Envelhecer (IEN/UFRN). The proposal stemmed from the observation that, despite the growing institutional use of digital social networks, little was yet known about how older adults understood, interacted with, and assigned meaning to scientific messages disseminated in these spaces. The investigation sought to address issues related to navigation difficulties, cognitive and communicational barriers, and the lack of accessible strategies for information mediation oriented toward ageing. The specific objectives of the research were: to identify the profile of the target audience of IEN’s Instagram; to map the difficulties faced by this audience in understanding and navigating the posts; to problematize a Consultancy Guide, based on the Appreciative Inquiry of Action-in- Action Method, focused on strategies for engaging older adults with scientific content; and to explore tools and support materials for the application of the method by the Institute’s team. For this purpose, a quali-quantitative approach was adopted, structured in three phases: the first dedicated to diagnosis and sensitive listening of older adults, through a questionnaire with open-ended questions; the second devoted to the development of the Consultancy Guide; and the third to the consolidation of complementary materials with practical guidelines. Data analysis was conducted using the content analysis technique and guided by the principles of the Appreciative Inquiry of Action-in-Action, identifying not only challenges but also communicational potentialities. It was found that the research contributed to broadening the understanding of how older adults receive information on digital social networks, providing theoretical and practical support for improving the information mediation strategies adopted by public institutions. As a final product, a free and easy-to-use guide was made available, offering guidelines on language, accessibility, aesthetics, and content formats capable of making posts more attractive, understandable, and meaningful for this audience.
