TITLE:

The social issue is deeply linked to access to information, especially in the context of health, as the ability to search, access and use relevant information is essential for promoting equity and social well-being. In a capitalist society, where informationoften becomes an inaccessible commodity for many, it is important to identifythebarriers faced by populations in this process. Thus, studies on information and healthbecome indispensable when analyzing the impacts of expressions of social issues onthe relationship between information and quality of life. Therefore, this study starts from the question of understanding what are the informational difficulties causedbyusers revealed with syphilis and how are these impacted by the expressions of thesocial issue? How do expressions of the social issue reach users who are reportedtohave syphilis and do not have access to the information they need to meet their informational needs about the disease? Thus, the study has the possibility that theexpressions of the social issue that unfold in the informational behavior of users disclosed with syphilis may be related to the increase in cases of the disease in Brazil. Therefore, the objective research analyzes the impacts of expressions of the social issue on the informational behavior of users with syphilis treated at IMT-RNintheyear 2024. To this end, it defines the following specific objectives: To survey users diagnosed and undergoing treatment for syphilis who were treated at IMT-RNin 2024; Identify the expressions of social issues that exist among users diagnosed withsyphilis and treated at the aforementioned Institute; Verify how users search, access and use information about syphilis in the process of treating and preventingthedisease; Point out the information gaps that exist in the information behavior of users in the face of social issues; Define guidelines on search strategies, access and use of information about syphilis that contribute to informational behavior in the face of expressions of the social issue; and Suggest the creation of an almanac on syphilis tobe made available by IMT-RN to users of the Institute. Methodologically, this studyis characterized as applied research, with a quantitative-qualitative approach, withaninductive method and uses a semi-structured interview guide for data collection. This will be applied to users diagnosed with syphilis and monitored by the Institute of Tropical Medicine of Rio Grande do Norte throughout 2024. Thus, the relevance of this study is justified by the need to encourage debate about the informational behavior in the field of health, focusing on the population diagnosed with syphilis served by IMT-RN, based on the understanding that health is a social right, as recommended by the Federal Constitution of 1988.
