DIAGNOSIS AND ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIAL HOUSING CONDITIONS AND SCHOOL PERFORMANCE IN CAICÓ-RN
Intersectorality, Housing and Education, Public Policies, Housing Policies.
This work aims to understand how an individual's housing situation impacts the educational environment, more specifically, how the living conditions to which a student is subjected can affect their academic performance and level of education, through a geographical interpretation, considering space as a social instance, and adopting an intersectoral perspective when analyzing housing in connection with another area of society, in this case, education. To achieve this, there is initially an investigation of the housing issue and the public social housing policies developed throughout history, from the national to the municipal level, with specific attention to the city of Caicó RN, highlighting its characteristics and the conduct of public authorities regarding the issue. Subsequently, studies are presented that adopt an intersectoral perspective regarding the role of housing in the education and academic performance of individuals, both in the Brazilian context and in other regions of the world, highlighting the impacts that the quality of housing, or the lack thereof, can have on health, safety, and education. Finally, there is a presentation of the housing reality in Caicó-RN, demonstrating how housing issues affect and are spatially distributed in the city, pointing out the main areas that require state attention and the socio-spatial inequality that manifests in the urban space. Following this, a series of educational data from schools located in the four zones of the city is presented, which were analyzed and compared considering the housing context of each school, showing differences in the indicators depending on the housing reality of the students in each institution
