WRITING A SERTÃO: THE HISTORIOGRAPHICAL OPERATION OF OSWALDO LAMARTINE DE FARIA (SERIDÓ, 1945 – 2005)

This research addresses the work of Oswaldo Lamartine de Faria (1919–2007), a writer who, between 1945 and 2005, dedicated himself to the study and writing about the rural world, especially the hinterlands of Seridó, bringing into being a work of multifaceted textual genres and enshrining himself into the literate scenario of Rio Grande do Norte. The analyses of the historiographical operation in his essays, and of his own works, mainly in interviews and mailing, made it possible to undertake the examination of a specific conception of the hinterlands of Seridó throughout the 20th century, by analyzing the way in which, oswaldian texts relate history with biography, fiction, and also memory.
