The Academic Master's Degree in Sciences Applied to Women's Health (PPgCASM) is affiliated with the Health Sciences Center (CCS) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and is headquartered at the Januário Cicco Maternity School, a leading hospital in the state of Rio Grande do Norte for women's and newborn health care. This initiative is driven by the need for high-quality research, with women's health being a priority and strategic issue at the regional, national, and international levels. The goal is to transform the current situation, particularly in the necessary economic and institutional changes brought about by public policies.
This proposal aims to address regional research needs in the field by investing in the training of qualified researchers and faculty members. The primary mission is to graduate individuals with scientific critical mass, capable of developing and leading research in women's health through a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, while also engaging in teaching activities at University.
The main research setting for the program is the Januário Cicco Maternity School (MEJC), a tertiary university hospital focused on women's and newborn health and a reference in the state of Rio Grande do Norte for high-risk pregnancies. In addition to teaching, research, and extension activities, MEJC's mission includes providing quality care at various stages of a woman’s life.
The primary research focus of the program is the study of chronic gynecological and obstetric diseases, including diagnostic, surgical, and pharmacological treatments in areas such as endocrine gynecology, reproduction, infections, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and pathology of the lower genital tract. The program will also cover topics related to the climacteric, puerperium, infertility, mastology, infectious diseases, high-risk pregnancies, congenital malformations, prematurity, among others. The use of this program is crucial as a space for research in women's and newborn health.
