RESUMO:

The objective of this study was to verify how the

the Brazilian scenario on traffic accidents, by means of a review of the

incident and accident involving motorcycles. Method:

Public domain databases were accessed: BIREME portal

(Latin American and Caribbean Center on Information Sciences in

Health), portals of Latin American and Caribbean Literature in

Health (LILACS), Spanish Bibliographic Index in Health Sciences

(IBECS), National Library of Medicine / NLM (MEDLINE), The Cochrane

Library; National Library of Medicine / NLM (PubMed). The descriptors

traffic AND AND motorcycle accident were used in the search.

Results: 25 studies were selected, in general these studies

identified as potential factors for accidents

involving motorcycles: the age of the driver (primarily young),

sex (men as the major victims of accidents), use of licit substances

and illicit, accident period (weekends), the type of profession

(motoboys and moto-taxi drivers), region of the country (inland) and, mainly,

the lack of use of safety equipment. Conclusion:

It was hoped to point out the need for the installation of

transit system by means of preventive actions with investments in

education in traffic, research, surveillance and defensive driving
