Sustainable Development. Tourism. Conservation Units. Indicators.
Tourism, as a driver of socioeconomic development, is one of the main sources of income for many communities, but, given its power of impact, understanding this phenomenon and seeking to make it more sustainable is essential. In this context, several tools, in order to better understand the tourist activity and the dimensions it encompasses, have been developed, especially in this study the systems of sustainability indicators. The work aimed to improve the sustainability indicators for the evaluation of tourism activity in conservation units in Brazil; and to analyze the sustainability of tourism activity in the Fernando de Noronha State District, through the Tourism Development Sustainability Indicator System (SISDTur) . For this, a survey of scientific articles was made that addressed the theme of sustainability indicators focusing on the context of conservation units in Brazil, Chapter 1, and the use of SISDtur to measure sustainability in a location that has an Environmental Protection Area and a Marine National Park, Chapter 2. From this analysis, we verified that different indicator systems have been used in the context of tourism in Brazil, and that the existence of Conservation Units can bring benefits when there is adequate management.
