SUMMARY:

The academic tutoring program, offered by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Technical Education Institutions (TIEs), runs parallel to formal education and consists of activities related to teaching, research, and outreach. The goal is to integrate student tutors into teaching practices in a specific subject area. They are supervised by faculty advisors who can grant increasing degrees of independence, allowing them to plan, execute, and evaluate educational activities that facilitate the teaching and learning process of the students being tutored. Therefore, the objective of this research is to analyze the perceptions of faculty advisors and student tutors regarding the contributions of academic tutoring to the teaching-learning process in nursing education at a public university in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Norte. This is a descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through individual semi-structured interviews. Data analysis used Bardin's Content Analysis method, supported by Iramuteq (R Interface for Multidimensional Text Analysis and Questionnaires). Respondents perceived that the academic tutoring program had repercussions on the teaching-learning process, as it promoted improved public communication, the development of new personal and study routine habits, knowledge and practice of new teaching methodologies, and the awakening or confirmation of interest in a teaching career. Therefore, academic tutoring, in the development of these skills and competencies, significantly contributes to the improvement of undergraduate nursing education.
