THE TRAINING OF NURSES FOR THE HEALTH CARE OF THE ELDERLY POPULATION

Introduction: The Brazilian population is aging. It is estimated that after the control of Covid-19 pandemic, sanitary crisis that provoked an increase in the number of deaths, especially in the third-age group, the life expectancy of Brazilians continue the pace of growth. In view of this scenario some measures need to be adopted to ensure well-being and quality of life for this population that presents their own peculiarities of their age group. From this new configuration, the professionals' training, including in the nurses, are able to meet the needs of the elderly population. Objective: To analyze the situation of the nurses' training for the health care of the elderly population in institutions of public Higher Education (IES) from the State Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. METHODS: It is a qualitative, descriptive research, which has the scenario the public IES of Rio Grande do Norte who have bachedrail in nursing. For data production, semi-structured interviews were carried out with a team of teachers (NDE), chosed group by the course coordination. In addition, two focal groups were performed with the students of the last year of two IES of Rio Grande do Norte, indicated by the disting representative of the class or, in the absence of that by the coordination of course. The collected data were analyzed by the content analysis technique. RESULTS: In the preliminary analysis of the produced data, they were listed in two categories: the student's perception about their training and nursing training for the performance with the elderly population. The interviews with the teachers were categorized in: pedagogical approach and curricular structure; Health care model and interdisciplinarity during training and training for the performance with the elderly population at the different levels of the Brazilian Public Health System (SUS) attention. Finally, the research is expected, being completed, favors reflection on the formation of nurse for the performance with the elderly population.
