SUMMARY:

The objective of this study is to analyze the effects of gamification on the performance of Accounting and Business Administration students, analyzing how the integration of game elements in teaching can influence engagement, motivation and academic performance in accounting subjects, either by facilitating decision-making or developing problem-solving skills. With a qualitative approach, the methodology included the application of a gamified activity, followed by interviews with focus groups and individuals to assess student perceptions, triangulated with participant
observation. The research was carried out at a higher education institution in Caicó/RN during the 2024.1 academic term and the sample included 47 students. The results indicate that gamification increased student engagement and motivation, promoting a more dynamic and collaborative learning environment. In addition, the gamified strategy facilitated the understanding of accounting concepts and decision-making. However, the research also identified limitations, such as the restriction to only one educational institution and only two courses, suggesting the need for future studies to be expanded within the areas of management and business. It is concluded that gamification has promising potential to improve the learning experience in higher education, contributing to the training of more engaged and prepared professionals.
