SUMMARY:

This study aims to analyze undergraduate course coordinators’ understanding at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) regarding the planning and implementation process of the Undergraduate Courses’ Triennial Action Plan (PATCG) and its Annual Execution Report (RAEPATCG). Methodologically, the research is applied in nature, adopting a qualitative-quantitative approach with descriptive and exploratory characteristics. Data were collected through interviews and structured questionnaires administered to undergraduate course coordinators and analyzed using descriptive statistics and interpretative analysis based on the PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act). The results indicate that although these instruments are recognized as relevant for academic management, difficulties remain in the planning stage, particularly in defining feasible goals and indicators, aligning them strategically with the Pedagogical Political Project (PPP), and operationalizing the instrument. In the execution and monitoring stages, challenges were identified related to the continuous monitoring of actions, integration with institutional systems, and administrative overload concentrated in course coordination. Nevertheless, the findings reveal a significant level of alignment between planning and practice, as well as recognition of the potential of these instruments to strengthen academic management. Based on the empirical findings, a guidance booklet was developed as the technical product of the research, designed to support coordinators in the strategic use of the PATCG and RAEPATCG through simplified guidelines, monitoring suggestions based on quality indicators (ENADE, CPC, and IGC), and directions for aligning goals with the PPP. It is concluded that strengthening the use of these instruments, combined with formative and organizational support strategies, can contribute to consolidating a culture of planning and continuous improvement in the management of undergraduate programs.
